Sarah’s VBAC Hypnobirth

birth hypnobirthing Oct 04, 2021

Sarah’s first labour and birth were pretty traumatic and ended in an emergency C-section and a stay in hospital. 5 years later when she was pregnant with her son she decided that she would really like to have a VBAC (Vaginal birth after cesarean). Here is her story:

How did you feel about birth before starting the Embrace Bump to Baby course?

Nervous as my previous labour was awful but I hoped it could only get better.

Why did you decide to learn about hypnobirthing?

I was looking to find something which could focus my mind and give me more positive thoughts/feelings about giving birth.

How did you feel once you were taking the course to prepare?

I felt a lot calmer after just reading the first ebook!!! Everything you said made sense and it actually seemed easy to be able to have calm and positive birth. I also loved the chill out MP3 it’s awesome and allowed me to relax deeply. I was still thinking about trying to put this to practice when the time came. I knew I had to trust my mind and body and let go. To believe in the course and your training.

What were your goals and intentions for taking the time to prepare for your baby’s birth?

I wanted to try and calm myself and really focus on the breathing and the techniques. I had been practising making myself calmer and more positive. Once I was on maternity leave and Sophie was at school I would listen to the ‘Embracing Birth’ and ‘Pregnancy and birth affirmations’ MP3s every day and re-read the ebooks so I knew I had prepared myself as much as possible. (Sarah took the course when it was just ebooks and MP3s. Now all of the content is also in video format so it’s like taking a course in person with me.)

Did your partner do the course too?

Yes Charlie knows about hypnobirthing now and all of the techniques so I 100% knew he would be there for me and whatever happened would be supportive in what I wanted and how we could get through it together.

How did your feelings about birth change during the course?

I don’t really believe in many things until they can be proven and whilst the course sounded exactly what I was after, following the birth of my daughter 5 years ago which was traumatic, long and not how I wanted it I needed to prove it to me that it would work!!! I started reading and listening and practising and felt so relaxed and a lot more confident.

Tell me your son’s birth in as much (or as little detail) as you like:

I was still nervous before the birth but when it came to it this time I only had gas and air and that was it, I was in control and knew how to handle the breathing and breathe through the contractions.

I took myself away and out of the situation, mentally speaking so hence my sons birth was only 5 hours start to finish, relaxed and so much less painful. A much better experience to look back on!!!

How many stars out of five would give the course?

5 stars. It’s awesome and I really wouldn’t change anything! The ebooks are really easy reading and I loved that they are broken down into titles rather than one large block of text. Well done I think people will be queuing for it as it is fab and exactly what I was looking for.

Would you recommend the course to friends and family?

Yes I wish I had done this course for my daughter as well as my son. My friend who is due this year is starting the course soon on my recommendation and I can’t wait for her to have the same positive outcomes.
